CURATING THE ONLINE PERSONA
How do preferences shaped by external factors affect queers’ self-perception, best seen through their constructed online personas?
To get to know more about the Barbies personally, we asked them about their
gender expressions that shape their personas on online dating platforms. We learned about the factors and considerations that influence how they curate their identities and saw the connection between this and discrimination. While the interviewees vary in terms of their expressions and reasons behind these, they all similarly had a phase in which they conformed to the prevailing masculine stereotype in the LGBTQ+ community.
